Having retired from active NASCAR competition at the end of the 2005 season, Rusty Wallace left the seat of his famous number ‘2’ having won fifty-five races (8th all-time at the time of his retirement) and, at one point, making 697 consecutive starts at NASCAR’s premier level. The Rookie of the Year in 1984, Wallace went on to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (then known as Winston Cup) championship in 1989. With one of the most impressive resumes in the history of stock-car racing, Rusty Wallace was named one of NASCAR’s ten greatest drivers, in 2008, by the editors of NASCAR Scene and NASCAR Illustrated.
Wallace has remained very visible in the sport, most particularly as the lead racing analyst for ESPN and ABC Sports. He is a popular fixture on the current weekly NASCAR Sprint Cup race broadcasts. At the same time, he owns a NASCAR Nationwide Series team, a signature series race track (Iowa Speedway) and is active in many philanthropic and civic ventures.
